Tobi.com offers eco-friendly fashion finds

Summary : Tobi.com offers ecologically minded beauty options alongside a carefully edited clothing collection for men and women.

Catherine Chow and Corina Nurimba — who opened the hip Hayes Street store Azalea in 2003 — have taken their stylish and sustainable-living sensibilities online. Named after their first customer, their newest venture, Tobi.com, last month began offering ecologically minded beauty options alongside a carefully edited clothing collection for men and women.

"We started Eco-Tobi because we want it to be a whole lifestyle experience, providing our customers with that conscious side of fashion," said Chow, 28, who recently returned from an eco-tour in Costa Rica.

The site features well-known eco-brands like Edun, the line created by the wife of U2 front man Bono (a heather-gray Phazer hoodie for $230) alongside lines such as Del Forte Denim from Los Angeles — pants made of chemical-free organic cotton and recycled buttons — and Panda Snack, an assortment of tops made from bamboo fiber. Shoppers can also choose from six styles of Toms shoes — canvas slip-ons similar to espadrilles that sell for $38 to $58. For each pair of Toms shoes purchased, another is donated to a child in need.

"When we choose eco and organic lines, it's not just about the fashion, but the business practices," said Chow, who in addition to Nurimba, 30, also collaborated with Ken Chan, 33, to make the site a reality.
