Internet Marketing :: Firefox Launches T-Shirt Design Competition

Firefox celebrates launch of 3.0 browser with new Internet marketing campaign.
Firefox has long been my browser of choice for a number of reasons; one is that they’ve always been very "non-mainstream." However, they have taken a step in the mainstream direction with the launch of their latest Internet marketing campaign.
This new Internet marketing campaign was cooked up to help fester the excitement around the launch of Firefox 3.0. Since Mozilla has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to competitors, it’s no surprise that they decided to do something like this. And while the consumer designing a clothing item for a company is not a new thing (Doc Marten and Levi have both done it recently,) it is a new thing for a company that does not have their primary business in the clothing industry.
So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to design the new Firefox 3 t-shirt. The winning design will be featured in the Mozilla store and sold as an exclusive item.
And in typical Firefox fashion, they have added yet one more element of community sharing to the mix. Instead of having images uploaded to their site, they’re using Flickr. And in order to submit your design, or view them, you must first create a free account and join this private group.
Which, of course, I did. Now, although I can’t show you the designs here, because it is against their rules, you can join the Flickr group and check them out yourself! And I suggest that you do because they’re fabulous!
If you’re a future fashion designer, this could prove to be a major opportunity for you. A T-shirt is a blank canvas and the Firefox name is open to your interpretation. How do you see Firefox? The folks over at Mozilla urge you to be as creative and abstract as you want. Now, how often do you hear that?!?
The first round of voting will be done by the Mozilla staff. Then, they will put the top 5 on their website, and open it to public votes.
And to the victor go the spoils…….for your efforts, you’ll receive "worldwide recognition," a $250 gift certificate to Amazon.com, and a free Firefox 3 T-shirt to show off your fabulous design. 4 runners up will receive $50 gift certificates to Amazon.com and their very own Firefox 3.0 T-shirt with the winning design on it, but Mozilla doesn’t say anything about how much "worldwide recognition" these folks will get.
What does that mean? It means go big or go home! Make sure your design catches the eye of the team over at Mozilla if you want to get your work in front of the masses. What are you waiting for!? You’d better get started; the deadline is March 16th!
Good Luck!!
