Increase Online Sales :: Sell “Couture”

Thursday 25 October 2007 à 01:00 by Fashion-Fox

In today’s world of high-end fashion, one of the fastest ways to increase your online sales is to offer couture items.  “Couture” is a word that is defined as “the business of designing, making, and selling highly fashionable, usually custom-made clothing for women,” so it’s no wonder that it’s always popping up in some fashion magazine or being thrown around synonymously with celebrities.

But what is the average person who searches for “couture” actually looking for?  And what can you, as a high-end online retailer do to target these consumers?    Well, we’ve got some answers for you; but first, let’s look at what those consumers are specifically searching for.

The highest ranking search is for a specific brand, “Juicy Couture,” which is really no surprise.  A very popular brand among both celebrities and the late teen, early twenties sect, I would have been shocked had it not taken the top slot.  You will see again that Juicy Couture ranks in spots 8 and 10.

What caught me by surprise here was the number 2 slot, Randy Couture.  Although “couture” has everything to do with fashion, Randy does not – in fact, he’s a mixed martial arts fighter.  How’s that for the power of the internet? Where else can you bring two things together when they’re on opposite ends of the spectrum?  This gentleman’s name also happens to be the driving force behind ranks 5 and 6 as well.

Disney Couture was another search item that caught me a little off guard.  I guess I’ve never really thought of Disney as having a “couture” type image or line of products.  However, I think this is a great example of how a company can diversify to draw in different customers.  Think about it, if you think Disney, the first thing that likely comes to mind is Mickey Mouse and the giant amusement parks that dot the globe.  If you have children, it might even mean Tinkerbell pajamas.  But by creating a new “brand” to be associated with their name, they have engaged a whole new audience.  That’s marketing at its finest.

Overall, it looks like when consumers surf the Internet for couture, they are either looking for “hot couture or haute couture,” or they’re shopping for Juicy.  As a high-end retailer, you can increase your page rank by selling couture items and making sure that they are labeled as such.  Make sure your site content includes articles that involve couture; you’ll find your page rank – and ultimately your visits – increasing in a flash!
