Fashion News :: The FIBER journal
Tuesday 05 February 2008 à 03:19 by Fashion-Fox

Big fashion news!! The University of Delaware’s Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies, in collaboration with a few others, has just announced the launch of FIBER, a new online journal, to showcase fashion and apparel markets around the globe. In addition, it strives to share the insights of leaders in the industry and the latest academic research, highlight resources and opportunities for further education, and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas.
In their premier issue, they highlight Guatemala and its emergence as a producer of many of the big-name blue jeans that are gracing our bodies. They also discuss a survey taken of small business owners and what it reveals about the stuggles surrounding International Trade, and Edie Bauer’s push to better the workplace, among other things.
Project Director and Editor, Dr. Hye-Shin Kim, says that, "A major goal of the FIBER journal is to assist the fashion and apparel industry…….and to share best practices for working internationally." It appears that they will be doing just that with their wide variety of coverage, including a column called "Threads" where student Anna Konigsburg talks about an internship at the American Apparel and Footwear Association and a column titled "Resources," which helps students find new courses and programs and to connect to other websites vital to the fashion and apparel industry.
It’s free to subscribe to the online journal by clicking here. This is a freebie you shouldn’t pass up; in the coming months I have a feeling that this publication will truly blossom into a wonderful resource for many within the fashion industry – whether you’re just starting out or you’ve had your own retail location for a decade. Enjoy!
