Fashion Marketing :: Take a Shot at Redesigning the Iconic Levi's 501
Fashion Marketing :: Project 501
Similar to what Dr. Marten did in their recent fashion marketing campaign, Levi Strauss has started their own redesign contest. As an extension of their partnership with The Weinstein Company and Miramax, and Bravo's Project Runway show, they launched a community site called Project 501.
As an aspiring designer, you may submit as many designs as you like, as long as they are in before the deadline of 11:59 PST February 6th of 2008. Which, if you're interested, and you're reading this, you'd better hop on it because that's tomorrow at midnight!!

After the submission deadline, it will be time to vote! And yes, you'll be judged by a group of your peers. So, what's at stake? Let's see. If you win, Levi will produce your design, sell it on levi.com and you'll get a $501 gift certificate to use at levi.com. Second place takes home a $501 gift certificate and 3rd place a $250 gift certificate - both redeemable at levi.com. Plus, just for voting and rating, you'll be entered to win gift certificates too! Not a bad deal. So what are you waiting for? Get busy!!
In terms of fashion marketing, this truly was a genius move. Not only is Levi ensuring that a staple of the world's fashion diet stays fresh, it's giving their customers more of what they want: room to be creative and show the world their individuality. Couple that with their partners in this, and you've got a recipe for a perfect contest.
If you don't think you've got the chops for designing, at least join the judges' panel; browsing through some of the current designs, it already looks like it's going to be an interesting contest. And it's great to see what everyone is coming up with.
