Fashion Internships In A 2.0 World

In an age when social networking is at its peak, Flare Magazine is reaching out to those in web-land to help them choose their new intern.  What a concept.

Individuals who were interested in becoming the next fashion intern at Flare Magazine were asked to submit their video pitch of no more than 90 seconds to the Canadian based publication. Now that the videos are in, it's time for you to act.  Flare is asking you to vote on who YOU think their next intern should be. Videos are going to be scored based on weighted averages, 75% by the judges, and 25% by the general public.

A three month internship at Rogers Publishing Limited, focused on work within “Flare.com” division, beginning in or about the middle of January 2008, plus a $2,000 bursary from FLARE magazine on behalf of Rogers Publishing Limited. Prize does not include transportation and/or living expenses to, from or during the internship.

I believe that Flare Magazine might be the first company to try this approach, and it's a very interesting one.  Rather than go through the typical rounds of interviews, you are put on the spot in a different sense; you are being judged by your peers.

How will this work out? We can only wait and see.  But, if you're going to be in the market for a fashion internship in the future, this might be an option worth looking into.
