Fashion Branding :: Britney Spears Loses Fight With Louis Vuitton
Just when it looked like things couldn't get any worse for Britney Spears, she's got trouble again - or had. The case has now been settled and it looks like the courts have sided with the luxury goods maker, Louis Vuitton.
A Paris court has ordered Sony BMG and MTV Online to stop broadcasting, or marketing, Spears video, "Do Something" which shows her driving a pink Hummer outfitted with a pink Vuitton-upholstered dashboard. Although Spears herself was not sued, or fined, Sony BMG and MTV Online were not so lucky. In addition to the cease and desist order, the companies were both fined $80,000 each.
My opinion is this; yes, it's a knock-off, BUT, I had to watch the video 4 times before seeing it and I was actively looking for it. It shows it for a fleeting moment, and that's it. It makes me wonder if the people at Louis Vuitton have nothing better to do than sit around and scruitinze music videos of pop tartlets like Britney Spears.
Quite frankly, I have seen brands such as Mercedes featured in hip-hop videos that were scary, offensive and disrespectful to women. These actions and images are damaging to a brand, much more so than Britney and her pink Louis Vuitton dash board cruising through the clouds.
