Fashion merchandising news: I have noticed the official release of MyShopPal.com, "an intelligent search engine for fashion shopping". Users get personalized product recommendations based on their preferences (e.g. brands and online stores), their measurements (e.g. waist size and shape of shoulders), and "fashion and expert knowledge" from professionals. Think Amazon recommendations based not only on your purchasing behavior and... Lire la suite

Internet marketing news: Fashionistas cannot be bothered with grocery coupons, can they? Well, fashion retailers who have operations both online and offline may be interested in reading this study about how coupons can drive in-store sales. Many fashion retailers have stolen a few ideas from consumer packaged goods (CPG) marketers before. Now, what if they rebranded "coupons" into "exclusive private sale offers" ? Would it work? ... Fashion marketing news: Martin Newman, head of e-commerce at UK-based fashion chain Ted Baker gives a very interesting interview about how the retailer mixes its online and offline operations. Fashion merchandising news: A new poll by Experian indicates that cash-rich, time-strapped consumers like flicking through catalogues, before going online and ordering. Summary and Opinion: Wal-Mart has launched a group (i.e. an themed online community) on Facebook called the "Wal-Mart Roommate Style Match". The homepage of the group invites college kids to "Take the Dorm Style Quiz and have your new roommate do the same." You take the quiz, and after a few questions, your room style is determined (I am a "Free Spirit" with "unique, self-expressive style" … sounds cool,... Lire la suite

Summary: Yet another traditional brand wants to use avatars (i.e. virtual characters) to sell more fashion goods. In the " e-me " campaign, Sears targets tweens (and their parents’ wallets). I noted that once again Montréal’s company My Virtual Model was among the technology suppliers. Lire la suite Lire la Suite →

Summary: Summer sales in France are drawing to an end and the results are in. Apparel sales grew by 8 to 10%, but sales of summer items (e.g. bathing suits and t-shirts) were hurt by the bad weather. Small retailers did not fare as well as big department stores. Competition with the internet has been very tough: online retailers have now made online summer sales a very popular event, while private sales websites ( "ventes privées ")... Lire la suite
